We're sisters who love to cook, but beware (or be delighted), because we're always finding shortcuts and substitutions to make recipes faster, easier, and hopefully healthier. This website is named for our grandmother, Norma, whose practical and creative approach to cooking inspired our kitchen philosophy.

We don't follow strict diets, and are notoriously loose with cultural cuisine interpretations. But if you need something quick for unexpected company or just want to get back to the book you're reading, welcome, Kindred Spirit. You've found your new recipe besties.

Today would have been my grandma’s 109th birthday. She was the best! This recipe card is from her collection and banana bread is one of the things that always reminds me of her.
🎈
She would always make extra and freeze some of it so she’d have some to send home with us when we would visit. You never left Grandma’s house empty-handed!

Three cups of nuts? That can’t be right! 😂 Let’s call that optional, shall we? Happy birthday Grandma!

Ebilskiver, cheater-style. We like them stuffed with jam. Or Nutella. Or ham and cheese. What’s your favorite way to ear them?

Am I the only one that has to transfer things from pot to pot (or bowl to bowl) due to miscalculating a recipe? Thanks, Julia, for the reminder!

Fiesta chicken and black bean soup with quinoa? Yes please! This soup is filling and delicious, and lighter than many taco soup recipes. Serve with a squeeze of lime for added deliciousness! <recipe at link in profile>

Cheating in the Kitchen is all about simple recipes the whole family will love. Cooking is lovely, but when a new chapter is waiting in our favorite books, we’re all about taking shortcuts. Is that cheating? Maybe so, but we’re okay with that.
